Tallyho Trakehners was born with the purchase of
Kaliber, as a 3 year old, in Germany in 1974, from
the Wahler family, Klosterhoff, Medingen.
Kaliber arrived in Australia in 1975 and as advised,
we gave him 2 years to acclimatize and settle in.
Two years later, again with the assistance of the
Wahler family, we imported two purebred Trakehner
mares, Vision and Mira VIII.
As well as our purebreds, we have bred with
thoroughbred and arab mares and also a stock horse
mare, even though we knew her stock would never be
studbook. All the progeny were exceptionally good
and were the horses my children learned to ride and
compete on.
In 1985, Kaliber was joined by Korrit from Germany
and two thoroughbred mares from England, Slap
Dash and Charlotte. The Kaliber/Korrit cross proved
to be an excellent combination and has now given us a
wonderful broodmare band to continue with.
I am very lucky that both my children share my
passion for our horses and the integrity of our
breeding is always paramount. I am also lucky that
I have a daughter-in-law who is as passionate about
the horses as we are.
Our principles are that firstly, we breed horses
and secondly, we breed Trakehners. So that, while
in the future, we shall always maintain our Trakehner
bloodstock, we may also avail ourselves of the many
other good bloodlines in the Warmblood world, that
are not necessarily Trakehner.
We shall persue whatever it takes to maintain our
ideal of breeding,
"athletic competition horses that are
sound, sensible and great to look at".
